اثر سنگدانه ها بر میزان جمع شدگی بتن
سنگدانه تأثير به‌سزايي بر جمع‌شدگي ناشي از خشک شدن بتن دارد.
با توجه به آن که خمير سيمان قابليت جمع‌شدگي زيادي دارد،
براي کنترل اين جمع‌شدگي از سنگدانه استفاده مي‌شود.
سنگدانه‌ها به وسيله ايجاد قيد در برابر جمع شدن خمير سيمان و کم کردن اثر جمع‌شدگي خمير سيمان به واسطه کاهش مقدار آن،
جمع‌شدگي بتن و ملات را کاهش مي‌دهند، ضمن اینکه افزایش حجم سنگدانه‌ها،
حجم خمیر سیمان یعنی اصلی ترین عامل جمع شدگی را کم می‌کند.
عوامل مربوط به سنگدانه که بر جمع‌شدگي ناشي از خشک شدن بتن تأثير مي‌گذارند عبارتند از:
1- سختي، تراکم‌پذيري و يا مدول ارتجاعي.
2- خواصي از سنگدانه که بر مقدار آب موردنياز بتن و مقدار سنگدانه تأثير مي‌گذارند.
3- خواصي از سنگدانه که بر پيوستگي بين خمير سيمان و سنگدانه تأثير مي‌گذارد.
4- وجود رس بر روي سنگدانه يا داخل سنگدانه‌ها که موجب جمع‌شدگي سنگدانه‌ها در هنگام کم آب شدن مي‌شود
و اثر قيدگونه سنگدانه‌ها را براي کاهش جمع‌شدگي کم مي‌کند.
مقدار آب بتن نيز بر جمع‌شدگي حين خشک شدن تأثير مي‌گذارد.
بنابراين خواص مختلف سنگدانه که بر مقدار آب بتن تأثير مي‌گذارند،
از جمله عوامل مؤثر بر مقدار جمع‌شدگي ناشي از خشک شدن بتن هستند.
از بین اين خواص تأثيرگذار، مي‌توان به شکل دانه‌ها، بافت سطحي،
دانه‌بندي، بزرگ‌ترين اندازه اسمي سنگدانه و درصد سنگدانه ريز اشاره کرد.
سنگدانه‌ها با جذب آب شديد در اثر خشک شدن دچار جمع‌شدگي زيادي مي‌شوند.
سنگدانه‌هاي کوارتز، فلدسپات به همراه سنگ آهک،
دولوميت و گرانيت سنگدانه‌هايي با جمع‌شدگي کم در نظر گرفته مي‌شوند،
در حاليکه سنگدانه‌هاي داراي ماسه سنگ، شيست رسي، سنگ لوح،
هورن بلند و گريويک اغلب باعث جمع‌شدگي زياد بتن مي‌شوند.
امروزه در بخی آیین‌نامه ها و استانداردها، جمع شدگی ناشی از خشک شدگی سنگدانه‌های بتن محدود می‌شود.
